Becoming Beautiful in a 140 Character World
We are on the edge.
The World Financial System is imploding. We cannot spend our way out of this house of cards into another (even though the powers that be will convince us to try).
Tunisia, Jordan, Morocco, Yemen, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Syria and Libya are all in the midst of conflict, unrest, protest and revolution … and that is just in the Middle East.
Long form journalism is dying. In a 140-character world, no one has the time for an in-depth look at anything other than Lady Gaga’s underwear drawer.
In the “modern”, “developed” world we can eat, sleep, and procreate to our hearts’ content. We could even dream… but often that is too much work so we’ve outsourced that to Hollywood.
We are on the edge.
On the edge of what?
Well…we get to decide. We get to decide which way we fall from this precipice we are standing on.
If it is connection, depth, joy, discovery, authenticity, a balanced budget (dare I hope), or maybe some version of peace and equality… then we must stop running and start looking.
We have been running from the things that make us human. We anesthetize ourselves from pain and suffering, ignore the realities of our mistakes, treat each other with flagrant disregard and squander our natural resources.
“We become beautiful people by feeling, seeing and knowing the depth of suffering and what it means to be human.” – Julie Daley
It is not easy to look. But we have to start somewhere….
I’ve just updated CharlierGrosso.com with the latest images for Wok The Dog. Please take a look, see, feel and become beautiful.
