In the past few weeks, the experiences that stuck with me are small and fleeting.

One grumpy Thursday night, I leave the studio for an art opening that I cannot miss. I see my friend Joe and instantly detect the scent of tobacco wafting off of him. The smell makes the curmudgeon me crave an inhale of the forbidden. Joe and I sneak out the opening, lean out of a window, share a smoke and watch the skyline change color with the first of Spring.

The 5 minutes I spend with Joe talking about not much at all was the highlight of my day and shifted a grumpy Thursday to one that I remember.

Through a strange twist of Twitter activities,  I meet a new (Twitter) friend out in real life for a cookie on a rainy Tuesday. We shared some heavenly cookies from Levine Bakery and attempted a quick re-enactment of “Singing in the Rain.”

In the course of 1.5hrs, Ty transformed from a stranger to a new friend and we now have memories and foundations to build a brilliant friendship on. Something rare and unique that is made more significant because it took place in real life.

I fully understand, appreciate, attempt to harness and actively participate in the the various platforms of social media. However, the most memorable and meaningful experiences I have, even if it is fleeting and small, takes place away from my computer screens.

The delicious, interesting, scary, fascinating, amazing, unique part of life happens outside the web. It is the personal that gives value. It is the personal that make it worth while.

Lets quiet the internet, dance in the rain, and have a unique, personal, potentially delicious experience together!

You name it and we will go do it! In NYC or anywhere out in the world…it just might take me a little while to get there. But I am excited to meet you, to touch you instead of my computer screen, so I will do my best and meet you anywhere!

Please retweet this if you are excited for an off line adventure would you like to have?

*I once rode the bus for 12 hours to a town with a friend for cured meat and cheese! Oh yeah, there we were in cured meat and cheese heaven! 🙂
