Can you feel it?

Change is in the air.

Its electric. Some mornings I can almost taste it.

I see it wielding its power in the lives of friends. I read about its mischief in the headlines.

I bring this up in conversation with a trusted friend.

“Change is coming. Can you feel it?”

“Oh my god! I feel it too.”

“What do I do?” I naively ask.

“Surrender to it.”

Duh?! Of course. Why am I so dumb?

What else are you supposed to do? You could stiffen up, dig your heels in and refuse to allow change to perform its magic on you. Is that not just a lot of work to prevent the inevitable? Wouldn’t it be better to spend the energy on defining your next destination instead?

We’ve reached the end of a chapter in this choose-your-own-adventure book. It’s time to decide if you want to turn to page 103 for the seemingly safer option or turn to page 142 where you and I jump off the cliff hand in hand.

To quote Julien Smith, “So you have two options, double down or get the fuck out.”

To quote Julien again, “You will need a personal act of insanity. If you’re going to continue and become the best in the world, you must have one. You must prove yourself to the mountain with a sacrifice. And this is the time. Choose Now. Make the sacrifice. See what happens.”

Are you scared? Change is scary. Sacrifice is scary.

But not being the best scares me even more. Stagnation and mediocrity make me nearly suicidal.

Death and taxes are not the only certainties in the world. Change is the third sister Benjamin Franklin forgot to mention.

Change is coming but we are not powerless. We get to decide which page we want to turn to. This is our adventure. A year from now, things will be radically different for me and you, that is a no-brainer.

I’m all in.

What about you? Ready to double down?

Now I must go chart my course to the next destination.
